When Valerie and Kenny pitched their idea to do a Lois Lane/Superman-themed shoot at sunrise on an empty parking deck overlooking the Orlando skyline, I just thought it was an awesome location and a sweet way to incorporate Kenny’s love of Superman into their engagement shoot. But I didn’t actually know until after the shoot was over that there is a much deeper meaning behind the “S” on Kenny’s chest. I’ll let Kenny tell you the rest… What does the “S” stand for?

‘ve known Valerie since high school, when we were going to the same church–but we really solidified our friendship when we both ended up attending the University of Florida for college. I was just a little baby freshman when Val was a junior, and she quickly became my Bible study leader, mentor and friend. In the years since then, we’ve made a point to catch up with each other every year or two, and while we talk about allll sorts of things (you should SEE us talk…we can go for hours!), the conversation inevitably always turned back to guys. Who we were dating, who we had previously dated, who we wished we were dating…and when our future husbands would walk into our lives. So when Valerie told me earlier this year that Kenny was the real deal–that she knew he was the one and he would be proposing any day now–I was over the moon excited for my sweet friend. She found her person, and there really aren’t many things better than that in life. I’m SO excited to be shooting Valerie and Kenny’s wedding next month, and we had a ridiculous amount of fun shooting their engagement photos a couple of weekends ago in Orlando. Val and Kenny put a ton of thought into the locations and outfits for their shoot, and I think the result was just stunning. From the Portofino Resort (where they had their first date AND got engaged) to a picnic at the lake behind their ceremony venue…it was all so THEM.

When you are a wedding photographer in a destination wedding location like Savannah, often your couples don’t live here and you don’t get to actually meet them in person until the wedding day. But with Jessica and Mike, it didn’t matter in the slightest that we had only spoken over the phone–it felt like greeting an old friend the minute I walked into the hotel room where Jessica and her girls were getting ready.

Entrepreneurs are a funny bunch. We can be pretty persnickety about our working conditions, and we are easily distracted by ALL THE THINGS. (Can I get an amen??) I often sit down at the computer with a crazy long to-do list, and even though I KNOW it all has to get done today (and some of it may even be fun work!), I can’t seem to focus for more than 5 minutes. (I’m half-convinced that I have adult-onset ADD. Is that a thing?)

Ya’ll know that there aren’t many things I love more than a Savannah wedding. They make my heart happy, and I still have so many moments of complete awe that I get to live here and actually shoot weddings in this gorgeous city. But, did you know that I don’t just shoot weddings in Savannah? Yep…I travel too! I recently shot a wedding in St. Augustine, FL, an engagement session in Gainesville, FL, and an inspiration shoot in Costa Rica. I adore traveling, and I always feel inspired in new locations. Hey sweet friends! How’s your Thursday evening treating you? Mine is rainy and filled with takeout from Green Truck Pub, which is kind of an ideal evening if you ask me. Sometimes there is nothing better than hunkering down for a cozy night in! Apt. B has had some exciting things going on lately, such as a secret elopement and a styled shoot with Ivory + Beau–none of which I can show you yet!! (Gah!) But, that’s not all…

Earlier this week I got to be part of one of the coolest photo styled shoots ever—a retro modern poolside wedding! This inspiration shoot was styled by Ivory + Beau and set at The Brice’s gorgeous new pool area, and I am DYING to share the photos with you all! One of the BEST parts about being a wedding photographer is seeing how every couple personalizes their day. With the rise of DIY weddings and handmade decor, your options are essentially only limited by your time and creativity, and you can put a personal touch on even the smallest of details. I always tell my couples that they don’t have to worry about “rules” when it comes to wedding planning. Every single detail can be personalized, and you should think of your wedding as a reflection of who you are as a couple. Have fun, get creative, and design a wedding that makes YOU happy.

I absolutely love when couples choose Savannah as their destination wedding location, because it reaffirms what I already know–Savannah is just lovely. Kirstie + Carlos are originally from Miami, where they went to high school together, reconnected years later, and then ultimately fell in love. Their love has since taken them around the world, from a proposal at Versailles to a wedding in Savannah. So what better way to start off their wedding planning journey than with engagement photos at Wormsloe? It’s such a classic, gorgeous Savannah spot.

Here’s the thing. Valentine’s Day can either be awesome, or it can be stressful. I personally think a day designated to celebrate love should always be awesome, but I know it can be hard to come up with that perfect, romantic thing to do that doesn’t involve fighting for a restaurant reservation. That’s why I am offering mini shoots on Valentine’s Day! It’s the perfect way to slow down, focus on each other, and freeze a few of your moments together. Romantic, simple, and fun–what every Valentine’s Day should be like, right?
