Why I Love Doing St. Pete Graduation Portraits at the Pier

The St. Pete Pier is one of my favorite locations for St. Pete graduation portraits. It offers a little bit of everything—city views, palm-lined walkways, open water, and clean architectural lines. Plus, when you book a session early in the morning, the pier feels calm and peaceful, with fewer people around.

Even on cloudy days, the soft light makes for dreamy photos. And the sun rises over Tampa Bay, adding a golden glow when the weather cooperates. It’s the perfect backdrop for timeless images you’ll treasure for years.

Multiple Backdrops, One Beautiful Location

One of the best things about doing St. Pete graduation portraits at the pier is how many different backdrops you get in one session. We explored palm-lined paths, modern concrete steps, and water’s-edge railings—all within walking distance. It keeps your gallery interesting and gives you a wide variety of looks without needing to drive anywhere else.

A Very St. Pete Surprise—The Pelican Cameo

Every session has a memorable moment, and this one brought us a surprise guest: a pelican! It perched nearby on the railing and quickly became part of the experience. Jamie and Jordan were brave enough to get a few fun photos next to it, which made for a uniquely local (and very St. Pete) touch.

Celebrate Your Shoot—Just Like These Sisters Did

In addition to celebrating with a photo session, Jamie and Jordan also enjoyed dinner and drinks right on the pier at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille. It’s one of my favorite St. Pete restaurant recommendations. Great food, great views, and a perfect way to keep the celebration going.
